This is the sound we were treated to for eight hours yesterday as the Hot Rod Magazine Power Tour cars went by our house on their way to Main Street to set up for one of the largest Hot Rod car shows in America. We were lucky that our city was on the stop this year and we had front row seats for it.
Our decades old windows rattled like crazy from the loud engines and J and Keith ate their lunches on the porch and watched the 3,000 cars make their way into the city. J even got out his own camera and ran to the sidewalk taking pictures while the drivers waved, honked their horns or acted cool and pretended not to notice the five year old pointing at their car.
Later that day we took the kids down to the car show and met up with the Gordons. It is making both of us wish that Keith's 69 Olds Cutlass S was completely restored so we could take it out. It's still sitting in his sister's garage, four years now, with body work done but lacking the interior or engine completion. We need to get on it- for our sake, his father's sake and most of all, his sister's sake! I'm sure she would like her garage back.
A side funny note - once in a while a normal car gets in the line and each time a minivan would go by J would say "That is NOT a cool car!" to which Keith and I laughed profusely. Even funnier is we haven't predispositioned him to thinking that. I caught him taking pictures of our car in the driveway and said, "J, is mom's car cool?"
"Nope", he said without hesitation.
In front of our house - they were backed up for hours
Again, one of many of J's shots. He liked the ZZ top-like cars the best.

Oh my - so that's why I saw so many hot rods around town yesterday. We're so out of touch out here in the "burbs".
How's the mommy's tummy doing these days? Been thinking about ya!!
OH my goodness my boys would have been in Heaven with that car display outside of our house. Lucky DOGS!
If they come again next year, I would definitely like to reserve a seat on your front porch for Will. He had a blast with J!
That is so cool that they came through your neighborhood. We have really good friends that usually drive with the tour every year. They actually skipped out this year.
I just had to laugh when I saw the pic of the swanky car... the restaurant behind it is not far from my home! Congrats to Keith on getting an awesome set of wheel!
That is funny that you recognize the store in back!
