Jackson's impromptu Christmas Pageant Debut
Today we enjoyed attending Kelly and Steve's church and were treated to a children's musical pageant for Christmas. It was actually pretty darn good - filled with fun catchy songs and told through the eyes of the angels in heaven upon hearing that God was going to go to earth in the form of a baby. At least 50 kids third grade and under were dressed as angels and singing their little hearts out. But it wasn't without the funny stuff too. Kids singing too loud or off key, angels getting tired and bored and starting to disrobe, or the nervous angel to who had to run off stage to what appeared to be "getting sick".
I LOVE a good pageant. I will not be the mom who you will have to drag unwillingly to a elementary school play or church production. I only wish this time we had brought a camera.
As you see, Jackson became part of the production unbeknownst to us...or him. The final scene brought Mary, Joseph, baby Jesus and the two and three year old sunday school classes out for a rendition of "Away in a Manger" - and there on the top row was Jackson. Who looked as surprised as we were to be up there in front of 500 people with three choruses of angels to back him up. And while he didn't know the song or hand gestures that the other kids had obviously been rehearsed with - he threw his hands up when everyone else did, stood still in his assigned place and, thankfully, didn't run screaming like the blind-sided thespian he was.
It was all fun - just wish I had brought a camera to record his first pageant!
And Kelly run ,not walk, and buy this book! You can finish it in a day and you will laugh until you pee! Our fear was that Jackson would become an Imogene Herdman, but as luck will have it he is much more of a follower when in front of an audience.

Don't you hate when you forget the camera!
Great rendition of the morning's events. We're still laughing about Jackson looking stunned and yet going right along with the whole thing. My favorite was when the choir behind him started singing, and he whirled around as though realizing for the first time that there were other kids up there. What fun - we sure enjoyed your visit. Go Jackson!!!
PS - I'm definitely going to check out the book...
