(Where turkey and presents meet in the middle)
The Plague had not lifted from the house - even with the arrival of the family for Thanksmas 2006. We decontaminated the house as best we could but this hardy strain wasn't going anywhere anytime soon. Despite the germs, we had a great time with everyone and even managed not to kill the tiny dog as feared. Gizmo survived the week and began to enjoy the children by the end.
Unfortunately mom left with more than her new fancy shoulder wrap and notecards - The Plague decided to make its debut in North Carolina where it is currently wrecking havoc on her.
But with all visits, there is always an opportunity to learn more about your family. Such as:
- Certain 25 year old sisters are terrified of the basement - or at least use that as an excuse to not go down there. For. Any. Reason.
- Little tiny dogs cause one to constantly look down to map out their location for fear of squashing them like an ant.
- Wizard is a fun card game. One that I have yet to win.
- Little girls loved to be rocked to sleep by their Papas.
- Thanksgiving just isn't Thanksgiving without the annoyance, hard work and all day cooking that is the traditional meal. Note to self: Who cares if you don't like turkey - must cook one anyway next year. Tapas is not a substitute.
- Announcing major life changes that will upset your family - good to do over beer and Wizard. Bad over the phone.
- Shopping all day in Chicago with the girls is fun even if you are sick. In fact, it may have aided in the healing. Note to self: Must shop for health.
- My children are weird. I already knew that but like to share the wealth with others.
- If you want to freak out a vegetarian, just take them to the Natural History Museum and walk pass the Ice Age Mammoth Hunting Exhibit. Good times.
- I love my family. And no matter how much you think we danced when you left, we missed ya'll a ton. Well, maybe a shimmy for a second.

I'm sorry to hear the Plauge struck your family. We have been so lucky... knock on virtual wood....everyone has gotten the strep throat this year except us. I love your posts. When can you show me how to do this so Eric and I can start our own. So much to say about the new little one and this seems so effient.
Love you and miss you.
